Steve Wilkison

Steve Wilkison is currently an Associate Professor at Waktins College Of Art, Design & Film where he began teaching web development and design as a part-time adjunct instructor in the spring of 2008. He accepted a full time position in the fall of 2011 and oversees the web development curriculum and concentration at Watkins. Over the past eight years he has been responsible for developing the curriculum and teaching several Web Development classes, including: Web Development I, which focuses on the basics of website design, coding and authoring, covering HTML and CSS; Web Development II, which focuses on more advanced techniques including jQuery and PHP; and Web Development III, which is a “project” oriented class which uses a variety of website project to provide the students with real-world, hands on web design and interactive development. He also teaches a class in the History Of Record Album Cover Art (a real passion of his) and one on Professional Practices (designed to give students information and experience with life in the “working” world).

A veteran of the music industry, Steve has been designing and developing websites, eCards, digital press kits and other interactive media for over fifteen years. He has worked with artists such as Willie Nelson, Keith Urban, June Carter Cash, Guy Clark, Nickel Creek, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Chely Wright and many more. Steve owns and operates Digital Vision Media, an award winning website, interactive and multimedia design and development company based in Nashville. Steve is both a highly regarded designer as well as a skilled coder, something that is increasingly rare in the web community.

Steve was a prominent and respected figure in the indie record label community for quite some time. As the former President of Eminent Records in Nashville, Vice-President/General Manager of Koch Records in New York, Owner of Dejadisc in Austin and Founding Member of the Americana Music Association, he has been involved with over forty CD releases as art director and/or graphic designer, including packages for such artists as Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, Wayne Hancock and Kate Campbell.

In earlier years he owned and operated a Montessori Pre-School working with children from the ages of 2 1/2 to 6.

Besides website design and development he is passionate about a few other things: collecting music (over 10,000 CDs, 5,000 vinyl albums and 1,000 vinyl singles); his personal website where he blogs about music, cycling, France and other things; France (where he would gladly move if only his lovely wife would agree); cycling (including an annual trip to France to ride some the high mountain stages used by the Tour de France); and his pets (currently 2 dogs: Sarah and Mika).

Oh, and he’s also a vegetarian (over 33 years now).
